When you have appliances in your home you know that there are times they need to have repairs made. The repairs that are needed can range from something minor all the way to needing a replacement. The appliances in your house are used all year round with the exception of the heater and the AC unit. They are used when the season changes and whether you need to warm up the house or cool it down. The heater is used in the fall and winter to make sure that your home feels comfortable and you have a place to warm up. Many homes have a boiler for a heating system so it is a good idea to know what could be wrong and what can be done about it. North Country Aire outlines common boiler problems to help you address them quickly.
Leaking Boiler
One of the issues you may notice when you have a boiler is that it can start to have a leak. The boiler does use water to create heat that is then transferred to the house to warm it up. The unit should be able to house all the water without allowing any of the water to leak out. The leak can be caused by many different things but no matter the reason it has to be repaired. The leak can come from the main tank or it can be a valve or seal that has been damaged. You want to make sure that if you notice any moisture around the unit you have it looked at and repaired by a professional. The leak may be a sign that the boiler needs to be replaced all together.
Boiler Pilot Light Won’t Ignite or Stay Lit
There are several types of boilers but the most common is a gas boiler. That means that the unit will use natural gas to heat the water and in turn heat the house. The gas is usually coming out of an area that is then lit with a pilot light. The pilot light should be on and healthy at all times. If you notice that the pilot light is out or that it is flickering and not healthy you need to have a professional out. There may be a problem with the gas line but there could also be a clog in the line that needs to be addressed. If the pilot light is out the unit will not be able to turn on and create any heat.
Boiler Kettling Noise
When you have an appliance they are intended to be used with little to no noise at all. When you start to hear sounds that are out of the ordinary you want to make sure you do not ignore them. A sound that you will hear is called kettling and happens when you have buildup in your boiler. The buildup blocks the flow of the water and creates the same sound that your tea pot does when it is heating. The boiler may need to be cleaned out and inspected to get it back in working order.
